November 7, 2025 – Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials report that an armed man was taken into
custody Thursday morning after barricading himself inside a veterans’ home in unincorporated San Jose during a standoff that lasted more than five hours.
At 9:04 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Veterans Housing Facility on Kirk Avenue. The incident began with a verbal argument, during which a resident pointed a gun at a staff member before barricading himself inside a room. The staff member was able to exit the building safely and was not injured.
The Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to the scene and spent several hours using de-escalation methods. Deputies ultimately deployed less-lethal projectiles, which helped gain the man’s compliance and led to a positive outcome.
Alexander Knapp, 68, of San Jose, was taken into custody without further incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Once medically cleared, he will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, and resisting arrest.
There is no ongoing threat to public safety. We commend the professionalism, patience, and de-escalation tactics demonstrated by Sheriff’s Office personnel, as well as the cooperation of facility staff and nearby neighbors. We’re grateful the situation was resolved safely.
