November 10, 2025 – Yuba City Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred
in October 2024.
On October 10, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue following reports of gunfire and a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics located a 42-year-old male victim who had sustained fatal injuries from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Yuba City Police Department’s Investigation Unit immediately took over the case and, over the past year, has diligently pursued all leads in an effort to identify and locate the suspect.
On November 5, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., investigators located the suspect, 37-year-old Mario Juan Franco Hernandez, walking near Forbes Avenue and Gray Avenue. Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Sutter County Jail on a charge of murder.
Investigators determined that the victim and suspect were known to each other and that the shooting appears to have stemmed from a long-standing feud. The investigation remains active; however, there are no other suspects outstanding in this case.
