November 24, 2025 – Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials report that a man attempted to enter the Hall of Justice in San Jose a few weeks ago with what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband. Our Sheriff’s deputies acted immediately, drawing their weapons and giving clear commands. The person complied, and deputies safely detained him.

During the search, deputies found two fixed-blade box-cutter knives. The suspected firearm was later determined to be a replica. As a precaution, the courthouse was placed on temporary lockdown while an investigation was initiated.

We’re sharing this now as an important reminder of the critical work our Court Security Division does every single day. Their quick response helped ensure the safety of everyone in and around the courthouse.

Our goal is always to keep Santa Clara County residents and visitors safe, and we remain committed to maintaining a secure environment for all.
