High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

November 25, 2025 – San Diego County District Attorney’s Office officials issue scam warning.

If you get contacted in any way and it involves money, STOP. HANG UP. TELL SOMEONE.

There could be between five and a dozen victims right now somewhere in our county walking into a SDDA fraudbank to withdraw their life savings. That’s how many cases of elder fraud there are.

The way through the door is some sort of tech support scam; a pop-up in your computer or a text message on your phone saying, "there’s a problem with one of your accounts."

Just looking at San Diego County alone, which is the fifth largest county in the United States, over a one-year period in reported scams we see a loss of $130 million and upwards of that.

They push an urgency for action from the victim and then they try to isolate them from their friends and family.

They are using fear to create an emotional impact in our victims.

For this to stop, we need every community member to educate themselves.

Report Elder Fraud to your local police and FBI at IC3.gov.
