November 27, 2025 – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials report that in July 2010, Lynda Haynie was reported
missing to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office by multiple acquaintances. Haynie’s disappearance was investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Bureau, but she was never located.
In January 2025, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Detectives obtained new information on the disappearance of Lynda Haynie, shifting the case into a homicide investigation. Detectives identified one of the subjects involved in Haynie’s disappearance as Jonathan Simpson, who resided in Maryville, Tennessee. Sacramento County Homicide Detectives, along with detectives at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at Simpson’s residence.
Sacramento County Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Simpson for Murder (PC 187) and Criminal Conspiracy (PC 182). On November 12th, 2025, with the assistance of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Simpson was taken into custody at his residence and later booked into the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office without incident. Simpson was later extradited to Sacramento County, where he remains in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s assistance, which played an integral part in the investigation on multiple occasions.
At this time, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau is actively investigating additional suspect(s) who were directly involved with Haynie’s disappearance.
