November 30, 2025 – San Diego Police Department officials announce issues concerning illegal e-motorcycles.

We know the e-moto crowd will have plenty to say, but we’re seeing more issues across San Diego and hearing more concerns from the community. We’ve pushed this message at press conferences, online, in schools and at community events.

Kids are riding illegal e-motorcycles capable of 80 MPH through traffic and crowded areas, often with bicycle helmets that won’t protect them at those speeds. Parents, please take a close look at what your kids are riding; many of these “bikes” are legally classified as motorcycles under California law and aren’t allowed on our roads. We’re not overlooking reckless riding on machines built for highway speeds. Expect citations, impounds and visible enforcement to keep our community safe.
