Cold Case Murder Arrest
December 29, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on June 18, 2006, at 1:26 a.m., deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Citrus Street, Highgrove, for a report of a male suffering from major injuries. Deputies arrived on scene and located 21-year-old Raymond Cardenas, a resident of Riverside, suffering from gunshot wounds. Cardenas was pronounced deceased on scene.
Investigators from the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit assumed this investigation. During the investigation, it was determined Cardenas had been shot a short distance away and ran to a nearby residence for assistance. Anthony Miera, now a 51-year-old resident of Spring Valley, was identified as a suspect in the case. Unfortunately, although Miera was identified as a suspect, there was insufficient evidence to charge him during the initial investigation, and the case went cold.
As part of the Riverside Sheriff's Office's ongoing efforts to review cold case homicides, investigators assigned to the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit – Cold Case Unit reopened this case in August 2025. After conducting additional investigation, the cold case unit developed sufficient evidence to charge Miera.
On December 26, 2025, with the assistance of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Gang Impact Team, Miera was arrested without incident in Spring Valley. He was transported and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder.
This investigation is currently ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time. If anyone has information regarding this investigation, they are encouraged to call Lead Investigator Dan Brown of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
