High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

December 31, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on December 29th, at about 10:00 P.M. (2200 hours), an individual requested a ride utilizing the ride share application Uber, from the 16900 Block of Eagle Way in Valley Center.  When the Uber driver arrived at the location to provide the ride service, a male suspect produced a handgun, pointed it at the driver, and forced him out of the vehicle.  The suspect then stole the victim's vehicle and fled the location in the stolen vehicle.

With assistance from officers from the San Pasqual Police Department, deputies located the victim's vehicle unoccupied in the 16800 Block of Kuttap Way, in Valley Center.  An individual matching the description of the suspect was subsequently located outside of a nearby residence and detained.  The victim was able to positively identify the individual the deputies detained as the suspect.  The suspect is a 16-year-old male whose name cannot be released.

During a search of the residence, an un-serialized 9mm handgun (ghost gun) was located and seized.  The 16-year-old male suspect was arrested for carjacking and possession of an un-serialized firearm. He was subsequently booked into Juvenile Hall.
