K9 Billy Celebrates the New Year Early with an Arrest 

January 2, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff's Office officials report that while most people were counting down to the New Year last night, 40-year-old Carlos Kelly, a parolee at large, registered sex offender, and career criminal, spent New Year’s Eve assaulting his elderly mother. 

He barricaded himself inside a home on the 900 block of Dornajo Way in the Arden area. Despite repeated commands and plenty of opportunities to surrender, he chose to stay put.

After hours of refusing to comply, K9 Billy was deployed and successfully apprehended Kelly, allowing Deputies to safely take him into custody.

Kelly’s night ended in handcuffs instead of a celebration, and he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for multiple felonies.
