In-Custody Death
January 4, 2026 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Thursday, January 1, 2026, deputies from the Robert Presley
Detention Center found an unresponsive male inmate, later identified as 19-year-old Ezekiel Cuenca-Torres of Riverside, in a housing unit cell.
Corrections staff and jail medical personnel immediately administered lifesaving measures supported by responding paramedics. Attempts to resuscitate inmate Cuenca-Torres were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Central Investigations Bureau and the Coroner’s Bureau responded and assumed the investigation. There were no signs of foul play, and this incident appears to be a suicide. Cuenca-Torres’ family has been notified of his death.
