UPDATE: Detectives Arrest Estranged Husband in Connection with the Death of Newport Beach Woman 

January 25, 2026 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that after the victim, Aryan Papoli, was identified, detectives conducted an extensive and persistent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. During the investigation, detectives identified Gordon Abas Goodarzi, the victim’s estranged husband, as a suspect.

After a complete review of the autopsy results the coroner determined the manner of death to be a homicide.

On Friday January 23, 2026, through a continued and diligent investigation, Goodarzi was contacted at his residence and later arrested. Goodarzi was transported to the Central Detention Center and is being held without bail.
