February 3, 2026 – Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that on December 28, 2025, patrol deputies from the Thousand Oaks Police Station responded to the 800 block of Kenmore Circle in Newbury Park, California, regarding a series of thefts from vehicles and attempted vehicle burglaries in the neighborhood. Deputies determined the suspect primarily targeted unlocked vehicles parked in residential driveways. The suspect ransacked the vehicles and stole numerous items valued at several hundred dollars, including property containing personal identifying information.

On January 5, 2026, patrol deputies from the Camarillo Police Station responded to the 1700 block of Avenida Cafe in Camarillo, California, for a similar series of thefts from vehicles and attempted burglaries. Surveillance footage provided by nearby residents allowed detectives from the Camarillo Investigations Unit to identify the suspect as the same individual involved in the Newbury Park incidents.

The Camarillo Investigations Unit collaborated with detectives from the Simi Valley Police Department and the Ventura Police Department. Through this collaboration, investigators learned of additional, similar incidents that occurred in the 6300 block of Raylene Court in Simi Valley, the 200 block of Millbrae Court in Ventura, and the 8500 block of Hollister Street in Ventura.

Camarillo Investigations Unit detectives identified the suspect as Jason Kohr and learned he was living out of his vehicle in Santa Paula, California.

On January 31, 2026, with assistance from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Liaison Unit, Kohr was located and arrested. He was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for violations of Penal Code sections 484(a) (Petty Theft), 487(a) (Grand Theft), 664/459 (Attempted Burglary), and Vehicle Code section 10852 (Unlawful Tampering with a Vehicle). Kohr remains in custody awaiting arraignment. Bail was set at $55,000.
