Deputy-Involved Shooting
February 7, 2026 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 4:08 p.m., deputies
assigned to the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and San Jacinto Avenue in San Jacinto regarding the report of a hit-and-run traffic collision. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that the driver of one of the vehicles ran from the area. Deputies obtained a description of the suspect and began checking the area.
Deputies located the suspect in the 2000 block of San Jacinto Avenue, where they attempted to take him into custody. The suspect failed to comply with deputies' commands, produced a firearm, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. Despite life-saving measures, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The suspect’s identity will not be released at this time.
The deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave according to department policy. The identity of the deputies involved will not be released. The investigation is active and ongoing, and no additional details will be released at this time.
