Burglary Suspects Arrested 

February 8, 2026 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on January 23, 2026, at 8:19 p.m., deputies from the Palm Desert riverside county sheriff logoSheriff’s Station responded to the 72700 block of Carob Court, Palm Desert, regarding a report of a burglary. The victim reported an unknown male subject had walked into the residence and stole property while the family was home. The victim later reported unauthorized charges being made to cards stolen during the burglary. Deputies conducted an extensive search on the night of the incident but the suspect responsible was not located.

The Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station Robbery and Burglary Suppression Team assumed the investigation and determined two suspects were involved in the burglary. The suspects were identified as Juan Avina, a 44-year-old resident of Indio, and Manuel Guerra, a 38-year-old resident of Bermuda Dunes. During the investigation Avina and Guerra were also identified as suspects of a separate residential burglary that occurred on January 26, 2026, in 100 block of Chelsea Circle, Palm Desert.

On February 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with the assistance of the Palm Desert Business Special Enforcement Team and Riverside Sheriff’s Gang Task Force Region-1, Avina and Guerra were located in the area of Portola Road and Julie Lane, Palm Desert where they were taken into custody without incident. Deputies also served search warrants at their residences in the 46000 block of Clinton Street, Indio and the 78000 block of Avenue 42 in unincorporated area of Bermuda Dunes. During the service of the search warrants evidence was collected that connected Avina and Guerra to the residential burglaries being investigated.

Avina and Guerra were transported and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for residential burglary, committing a felony while out on bail, committing a theft with prior convictions, and fraud related charges.
