Officer-Involved Shooting
March 2, 2026 – Yuba City Police Department officials report that they continue to investigate an officer-involved
shooting that occurred on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the 1800 block of Rapid Falls Drive near Bogue Road.
At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to the area of Wild River Drive for reports of a male subject walking nude in the neighborhood. While searching the area, officers located the individual in the 1800 block of Rapid Falls Drive, a short distance from the original call.
Prior to officers locating him, the subject—later identified as 31-year-old Guillermo Figueroa of Yuba City—allegedly assaulted a family member at a nearby residence before fleeing. He then attempted to force entry into another residence by ramming the front door. Officers located Figueroa during this sequence of events.
When officers attempted to contact him, Figueroa fled on foot. Officers pursued and attempted to detain him. During the encounter, he physically resisted officers’ efforts to take him into custody. Multiple Taser deployments and baton strikes were ineffective.
Figueroa armed himself with a shovel and attempted to strike officers. In response to this immediate threat, one officer discharged his service weapon two times, striking Figueroa in the torso.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid until relieved by emergency personnel. Figueroa was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The assaulted family member was transported to a local hospital, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and later released. The victim’s identity is not being released to protect their privacy.
The involved officers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The Yuba-Sutter Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Team, with assistance from the California Department of Justice, has assumed the investigation. Two Yuba City Police Department officers have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
This remains an active investigation.
