March 6, 2026 – ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, CA – Two people have been charged for their roles in a shooting last LADA Rolling Hillsmonth when a Los Angeles County sheriff’s vehicle was struck by gunfire outside of an apartment building in Rolling Hills Estates.

“Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every day and this is one example of the danger they can encounter,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “Firing a weapon at a law enforcement officer shows a profound and callous disregard for the people who live in that community. This was an extremely dangerous attack that thankfully did not result in anyone being injured. As far as the accomplice goes, if someone thinks they can help someone evade law enforcement and do so without penalty, they are seriously wrong.”

Shane Michael Mahoney (39) was charged in case 26TRCF00133 with one felony count each of attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm upon a peace officer.

Co-defendant Arianna Charmaine Mitchell (22) was charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact.

Arraignment will be scheduled at a later date in Department F of the Torrance Courthouse. The case was filed for warrant on February 25.

On February 22, 2026, shortly before 9:00 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy had just finished responding to a call about a reckless driver in the 600 block of Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates. As the deputy was leaving the area, a gunshot rang out and hit the rear portion of the vehicle. The deputy, who was not injured, got out of his car and found a single bullet hole.

Mahoney is accused of firing a rifle from a balcony at the apartment complex and Mitchell allegedly aided Mahoney in his efforts to evade law enforcement after the crime. Both are accused of fleeing the area. They were arrested on March 3 in Hawaii and are pending extradition.

If convicted as charged, Mahoney faces up to 35 years to life in state prison. Mitchell faces up to three years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Head Deputy District Attorney Geoffrey Lewin of the Crimes Against Peace Officers Division and remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
