Officer-Involved Shooting in Southeast Area
**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. March 10, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that on March 7, 2026, around 11:15 p.m., officers
assigned to Southeast Patrol Division responded to a radio call of a Robbery in Progress at a convenience store located at 15300 South Figueroa Street.
Upon arrival, the officers observed the suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Cynthia Anne Ivie Akers, standing behind the convenience store’s front counter. The officers issued multiple verbal commands to gain Akers’ compliance; however, those commands were disregarded. Akers then suddenly moved toward the counter, removed a handgun from a zippered bag, and pointed it in the direction of the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).
Akers was struck by gunfire and subsequently taken into custody. The officers immediately rendered medical aid and requested the response of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). LAFD personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Akers deceased.
The investigation later determined that the weapon in Akers’ possession was a pellet gun. The item was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.
No officers or additional community members were injured during the incident.
