Update: Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision in San Marcos 

April 4, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that a suspect has been arrested in a deadly hit-and-san diego county sheriff department logorun collision in San Marcos. 

On February 21, just after 8:30 p.m., deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station responded to reports of a collision in the 100 block of North Pacific Street.

Upon arrival, deputies found a pedestrian who had been hit by a car. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The pedestrian was later identified as 62-year-old Carey Faust of Vista. The suspect had fled the area on foot.

Despite an extensive search, the suspect was not located. The investigation continued.

On Thursday, April 2, Sheriff's Detectives arrested John Alvarado (39) of San Marcos on one count of felony hit and run and one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
