Homicide Arrest in Vista
April 5, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Monday, March 30, 2026, deputies from the
Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a deceased individual located on an empty lot in the 1200 block of Hacienda Drive in Vista. Deputies arrived and confirmed the individual was deceased. No obvious signs of trauma were observed at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and took custody of the decedent.
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, during a thorough autopsy, the Medical Examiner identified a brain bleed that may have resulted from trauma to the head. Based on these findings, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
On Friday, April 3, 2026, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26‑year‑old Arturo Garcia Morales in connection with the murder of Jose Garcia Ramirez in Vista. Garcia Morales was taken into custody in the 400 block of Seagaze Drive in Oceanside and subsequently booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a charge of murder.
Garcia Morales is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on April 8, 2026, at the North County Superior Court.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
