Olivehurst Homicide Victim Identified
April 9, 2026 – Yuba County, CA – Yuba County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are releasing the identity of the victim in
Tuesday’s homicide on Flemming Way in Olivehurst. The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Octavio Montano Navarro, who resided at the home.
Detectives determined the suspect, 36-year-old David Lopez Martinez, and the victim were acquaintances who lived near one another. The investigation revealed that Martinez forcibly entered the victim’s residence and fired a handgun multiple times, striking the victim.
At the time of the shooting, several family members, including small children, were inside the home. Although they were present during the incident, they do not appear to have been the intended targets and were not physically injured.
During the subsequent law enforcement response at a separate location on 9th Avenue in Olivehurst, witnesses reported hearing loud noises during the SWAT team standoff. The Sheriff’s Office can confirm those sounds were from diversionary devices deployed by deputies and were not gunfire.
At this time, there is no evidence to indicate the shooting was gang related. The motive remains under investigation. The suspect’s toxicology report is pending, and investigators are hopeful the results may provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 749-7777.
