Case Update: Tamarack Drive Shooting Case Ends in 19-Year Sentence
April 17, 2026 – Yuba City Police Department officials report that they would like to share an update on the August 10, 2025, shooting incident on Tamarack Drive involving 47-year-old Surjit Cheema.
In March 2026, Cheema entered a plea agreement with the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office and was sentenced to 19 years and 4 months in state prison. Cheema was convicted of negligently firing a gun in a dangerous manner, assault with a firearm, and resisting or threatening an officer. His sentence was increased due to prior strike convictions. This outcome reflects the seriousness of the incident and the continued commitment to holding violent offenders accountable while ensuring the safety of our community.
