April 17, 2026 – Monterey Police Department officials report that on April 11, 2026, at approximately 7:46
P.M., Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to a robbery and an assault with a deadly weapon at Macy’s at Del Monte Shopping Center, 100 Del Monte Center. When officers arrived, they determined that two suspects were involved and that they were no longer on scene. The investigation revealed the following.
Two male juveniles entered Macy’s and selected several items of clothing. They then left the store without paying. The total loss from the items was over $2,000, and Macy’s Loss Prevention employees attempted to stop the juveniles for shoplifting. One of the juveniles put down the stolen items and brandished a knife. The juvenile rushed at the Loss Prevention employees and threatened to harm them. Loss Prevention staff attempted to de-escalate the juvenile and retreated. The juvenile continued to rush toward the employees and made slashing motions toward them. Both juveniles then fled the scene.
On April 13, 2026, at approximately 6:11 P.M., Monterey Police Officers were notified that both juvenile suspects were at the Macy’s in Salinas at the Northridge Shopping Mall. Salinas Police Officers responded to the shopping mall and arrested both juveniles outside the store. In their possession were items they had just stolen from the Northridge Shopping Mall and items stolen from the Monterey Macy’s on April 11, 2026. Additionally, officers located ammunition and 3D-printed firearm parts and accessories inside their vehicle.
Both juveniles were booked into Monterey Juvenile Hall on charges of 211 PC – robbery; 245 PC – assault with a deadly weapon; 422 PC – threats; 487 PC – grand theft; and 182 PC – conspiracy.
