June 3, 2026 – Santa Barbara, CA – Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office officials report that detectives have Santa Barbara Sheriff logoarrested the fifth and final suspect connected to the homicide of a 17-year-old victim who was fatally stabbed on April 30, 2025, near San Simeon Drive and Turnpike Road.

Over the course of more than a year, Sheriff’s detectives have continued to pursue leads, conduct follow-up investigations, and work closely with prosecutors to identify and apprehend all individuals believed to be involved in the homicide. The arrest marks a significant milestone in a complex investigation that has resulted in the identification and arrest of all five suspects connected to the case.

“This case is a testament to the determination and professionalism of our detectives,” said Sheriff Bill Brown. “Even after the initial arrests were made, investigators remained steadfast in their commitment to uncovering every person’s role in this homicide. Their persistence over the past year ensured that all those believed to be responsible have been identified and held accountable through the criminal justice process.”

On June 16, 2025, detectives arrested 24-year-old Antonio Sanabia Garcia at his residence in the 500-block of West Gutierrez Street in Santa Barbara. He was booked on charges of murder and conspiracy. Garcia later pleaded guilty to charges.

Also on June 16, 2025, detectives arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile at his residence in the 500-block of West Canon Perdido Street in Santa Barbara. He was booked on charges of murder and conspiracy and his case has been concluded in juvenile court.

That same day, detectives served an arrest warrant on a second 16-year-old male juvenile who was already in custody at the Santa Maria Juvenile Detention Facility on unrelated charges. He was booked for murder. Proceedings are ongoing, including a pending petition seeking transfer of the case to adult court.

As the investigation continued, detectives identified an additional suspect, 20-year-old Adelfo Calles. On July 24, 2025, detectives contacted Calles in the 900-block of Jimeno Road in Santa Barbara and booked him on charges of murder and conspiracy. He was subsequently released pending review by the District Attorney’s Office. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Calles was re-arrested by the Santa Barbara Police Department on May 9, 2026. His case remains pending before the court.

On May 28, 2026, detectives arrested the fifth and final suspect, a 16-year-old male juvenile, at his residence in the 900-block of San Pascual Street in Santa Barbara for murder and conspiracy. At the time of his arrest, he was on juvenile probation with GPS monitoring for unrelated offenses. Juvenile court proceedings are pending for murder with a gang enhancement.

The investigation remains active as the criminal cases move through the court system. Due to the involvement of juvenile suspects, additional information regarding their identities will not be released.

Sheriff Brown added, “While no arrest can undo the tragedy suffered by the victim’s family and loved ones, we hope today’s arrest provides some measure of reassurance that this case was not forgotten. Our detectives remained committed to seeking justice from day one and continued that work until every known suspect was identified and arrested.”
