Officer Involved Shooting in Foothill Farms
July 16, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at approximately
6:30 a.m., our Communications Center received a call stating a transient subject, described as an adult male, was causing a disturbance at the Starbucks located at Elkhorn Blvd. and Diablo Drive. Employees stated the suspect was behind the store counter and armed with a “kitchen knife”. Employees hid in the back room while waiting for law enforcement to arrive. When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled. Deputies canvassed the area looking for the man.
Minutes later, one deputy saw a subject matching the suspect description walking on Diablo Drive. The suspect ran across the street as the deputy drove toward the location. The man ran into an open garage of a residence on the 5700 block of Diablo Drive as the deputy closed the distance to where the suspect was last seen. Inside the garage, a 63-year-old mother was getting into her vehicle when the suspect violently stabbed and cut her numerous times. Her daughter, a 26-year-old woman, heard screams and saw the suspect on top of her mother. The daughter pushed the suspect off of her mother, saving her from further attack. Unfortunately, the suspect then turned his violent attack toward the daughter. The daughter was also cut and stabbed numerous times after defending her mother.
Witnessing the attack, which unfolded within seconds, the deputy immediately drove into the driveway. As the suspect continued actively stabbing the daughter, the deputy fired his handgun toward the suspect. During the officer-involved shooting, the suspect was struck. Additional deputies arrived and immediately began providing life-saving measures to the suspect and both victims. Fire personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased. Both female victims were transported to a local area hospital where they were listed in serious but stable condition.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased in accordance with its protocols. No deputies were injured during this incident. At this time, investigators believe the victims were random and had no known connection to the suspect.
