Arrestee Medical Incident
**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. July 17, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that the (LAPD) Force
Investigation Division is investigating an Arrestee Medical Incident that occurred in Central Division.
On July 12, 2026, at around 1:30 p.m., Wilshire Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of a Theft Suspect there now located in the 100 block of the Grove Drive. When officers arrived, security officer at scene had the suspect detained. Following their investigation, officers determined the incident constituted grand theft and placed the suspect under arrest. The suspect was initially transported to Wilshire Division for booking. While at the station, she informed officers that she was pregnant. In accordance with Department procedures, officers transported her to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), where she was evaluated by dispensary personnel and medically cleared for booking. The suspect was subsequently booked on the felony charge, and Wilshire officers departed the facility.
At around 9:10 p.m., the suspect notified Custody Service Division (CSD) personnel that her water had broken. She further advised that she had learned of her pregnancy approximately one month earlier, but did not know how far along she was.
The suspect was immediately re-evaluated by dispensary personnel, who determined that she required a higher level of medical care and initiated arrangements for transport to a local hospital. Around 12 minutes later, the suspect began screaming, prompting an immediate response from custody personnel. She was returned to the dispensary for further evaluation while the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) rescue ambulance was requested. The suspect was then transported by LAFD to a local hospital. While receiving treatment, the suspect experienced a miscarriage.
Following medical treatment, the suspect was cited and released and was no longer in police custody.
Force Investigation Division personnel have assumed investigative responsibility for this incident.
