Arrests Made in Fourth of July Weekend Compton Homicide and East Los Angeles Shooting Cases
July 17, 2026 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that Sheriff Robert G. Luna and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman will provide an update on the homicide investigation related to the shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 11:20 p.m. during a large Fourth of July gathering in the 700 block of West Laurel Street in Compton. Five individuals (2 males and 3 females) were struck by gunfire during the incident.
Additionally, the Sheriff will provide an update on the July 5, 2026, shooting near Whittier Boulevard and Leonard Avenue in East Los Angeles, where four individuals, two adult males, one adult female, and one male juvenile were struck by gunfire during the large crowds that had gathered following a World Cup match.
Sheriff Robert Luna announced the arrest of suspect Jones for a shooting death in Compton, and arrest of another suspect for a shooting in East Los Angeles. Both occurred over the Fourth of July weekend 2026.
The families of the homicide victims joined us to urge anyone with information in these cases to please come forward and help us bring justice to all the shooting victims and their loved ones.
Thank you to our Homicide Bureau, Operation Safe Streets Bureau, Compton Sheriff's Station Deputies, East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station Deputies, and Anaheim Police Department for their swift work in bringing these suspects into custody.
There were additional victims in the several shootings over the holiday weekend. We urge the community to come forward and provide any information to bring justice to their families.
