July 28, 2026 – Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that on July 27, 2026, at approximately 2:05 a.m., patrol deputies from the Moorpark station responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 9400 block of Thompson Avenue in Chatsworth, which is located in the unincorporated area of eastern Ventura County. The deputies made verbal contact with the subject, who was still inside the residence. The 50-year-old subject stated he was armed with a gun and he fired several shots at the deputies from inside the residence.  No deputies or residents were struck by the gun fire.

Due to the location of the residence, officers from both the Los Angeles and Simi Valley Police Departments responded to assist. Based on the situation, the Sheriff’s SWAT, Unmanned Aerial Systems and Tactical Negotiation Unit responded. After obtaining a search warrant for the residence and failure to make contact with the subject, a window to the location was breached and a drone was inserted. The subject was located and appeared unresponsive. When SWAT members entered the location, they discovered the subject was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This was an isolated incident, with no on-going threat to the public. The subject’s identity is not being released at this time, pending next of kin notifications.
