Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrest 

July 30, 2026 – Monterey Police Department officials report that on July 28, 2026, at approximately 1:23 A.M., the Monterey Police Department was dispatched to the 2600 block of Sand Dunes Drive for a possible stabbing. The reporting party was an uninvolved witness who observed a male run through the area with a possible injury while stating someone attempted to stab him. When officers arrived on scene, they found evidence of a physical altercation, but all the parties involved had fled.

During a search of the area, officers with the Seaside Police Department located two of the involved subjects nearby. The two subjects were uninjured, but one had blood on his clothing.

During the investigation, officers determined a group of subjects was loitering and consuming alcohol in a parking lot when two subjects engaged in a mutual physical fight. One subject suffered a facial injury to his nose, and the fight stopped. While bleeding from the nose, the subject then entered a nearby parked vehicle and armed himself with a knife. He then chased the other combatant but could not catch him. The injured subject’s bleeding nose caused blood transfer to other people and property, leading witnesses to believe someone had been stabbed.

Utilizing Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology, officers were able to identify the suspect vehicle involved. Officers identified the subject with the knife as Angel Rodriguez 23 years old. At approximately 8:15 A.M., Monterey Police Officers and Marina Police Officers located Rodriguez in the 100 block of 10th Street in Marina and arrested him without incident.

Officers served a search warrant at Rodriguez’s residence and his vehicle. They located additional evidence, including a large kitchen knife inside the vehicle.

Rodriguez was booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of 245(a)(1) PC – assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000.
