Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian Deceased 

August 15, 2026 – South Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that South Traffic Division detectives are investigating a hit-and-run traffic collision that left a pedestrian deceased.

On August 13th, 2026, around 10:40 p.m., an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Vermont Avenue when it collided with a pedestrian crossing at West 83rd Street in a marked crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, render aid, and remain at scene, as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The victim is described as a 62-year-old male. His identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
