August 27, 2026 – Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that on June 5, 2026, at approximately 
11:15 A.M. (1115 hours), Camarillo Patrol Deputies responded to shots heard in the area of 2700 Barry Street in the City of Camarillo. Upon arrival, deputies quickly located discharged firearm casings in the roadway. Deputies searched the area and did not locate any people struck by gunfire. Based on the severity of the crime, the Camarillo Special Enforcement (SEU) and Directed Enforcement (DEU) Units responded to assist with the investigation.
While on scene, video surveillance was located which appeared to show the suspects discharging a firearm in the area of 2700 Barry Street and had entered an unknown vehicle. The suspect vehicle description was entered into the automated license plate reader database (ALPR). As a result of the search, a suspect vehicle license plate was identified. ALPR data had shown the suspect vehicle’s direction of travel after the shooting had occurred. As a result of the quick ALPR information, DEU Deputies located the suspect vehicle in less than one hour.
During the investigation, SEU Detectives authored multiple Ventura County Search Warrants which were later signed by Magistrates of the Ventura County Superior Court. As a result of the warrants coupled with further investigation, SEU Detectives determined the negligent discharge of a firearm was a result of a gang altercation which took place in the area of 2700 Barry Street.
Based on all evidence and information gathered during the investigation, SEU Detectives identified two juvenile suspects believed to be responsible for the negligent discharge of a firearm and street terrorism.
During the second week of August 2026, SEU Detectives authored search warrants for both juvenile suspects residences, vehicles, and property. The warrants were signed by Magistrates of the Ventura County Superior Court.
On 08/14/2026, various detective units within the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office simultaneously executed four search warrants at the juvenile suspects’ residences. As a result, evidence linking both juveniles to the crime was located. Additionally, evidence showing both juveniles gang affiliation was located at their residences.
One juvenile suspect was arrested for a violation of California Penal Code Section 246.3 – [Negligent Discharge of a Firearm], 27545 – [Felony Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm], 186.22(a) – [Street Terrorism], and 182(a)(1) – [Felony Conspiracy to Commit a Crime]. The second juvenile suspect was arrested for a violation of California Penal Code Sections 186.22(a) – [Street Terrorism], and 182(a)(1) – [Felony Conspiracy to Commit a Crime].
Both juvenile suspects were later lodged at the Juvenile Justice Center.
