August 28, 2026 – Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they have made an arrest connected to the deadly July 25, 2026, shooting in unincorporated Morgan Hill, following an extensive investigation.
On Thursday, August 27, 2026, Sheriff’s Office investigative and tactical teams served a high-risk search warrant at a home in Salinas, where a 17-year-old suspect was safely taken into custody.
Earlier this month, the Sheriff’s Office announced a collaboration with the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation, which offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of a suspect responsible for the July 25, 2026, shooting at a pop-up birthday party announced on social media. The shooting claimed one life and injured six others.
Community members submitted numerous tips, videos, and photos through the FBI’s digital media tip line. The information provided detectives with key evidence that helped identify the suspected shooter, which led to the subsequent arrest.
“We’re deeply grateful to the community members who stepped forward and shared what they knew,” said Sheriff Robert Jonsen. “Their willingness to speak up, along with the collaborative efforts of our law enforcement partners and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, has helped move this case closer to justice for the victims and their families.”
The suspect will face charges at a detention hearing on Monday, August 31, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 81 at Santa Clara County Juvenile Justice Courthouse, located at 840 Guadalupe Parkway in downtown San Jose.
Because of the suspect’s age, the suspect’s name and booking photo are not being released at this time.
