August 31, 2026 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office officials issue advisory on additional uses for Narcan.

Narcan isn’t only for people who use opioids. It can be there for a child who is accidentally exposed to opioids, a friend or family member at risk of an overdose, a stranger experiencing an overdose, or even a pet accidentally exposed to an opioid. Naloxone can quickly reverse an opioid overdose and provide critical time for emergency help to arrive.

Los Angeles County provides naloxone through community access points, health centers, hospitals, clinics, nonprofits, vending machines, and kiosks.

Carry it. Know how to use it. You never know whose life you may save.

And yes, naloxone can also be used in dogs experiencing opioid toxicity. Contact an emergency veterinarian immediately after suspected exposure.
