Suspect Arrested in Homicide of 4-Month-Old Infant 

September 30, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that detectives from the Juvenile Division announce the arrest of the suspect responsible for the homicide of an infant.

On September 28, 2026, around 10:30 p.m., Newton Division officers responded to a radio call for a “death investigation” in the 5200 block of Alba Street. Comments of the call indicated a female infant was found inside a trash can. Upon arrival, officers located the child unresponsive and inside a trash bin. LAFD paramedics responded to the scene and transported the child to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced deceased.

The LAPD’s Juvenile Division-Abused Child Section responded and investigated the circumstances leading to the child’s death.

Through their investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 19-year-old Takiyah Babers.

Takiyah Babers was taken into custody without incident and booked for 187(a) PC – Murder (Booking Number 7330358). Babers is a resident of Los Angeles and is the biological mother of the victim. Babers’ bail is set at $2,000,000.

The victim was identified as a 4-month-old infant.

This case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
