July 26, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Tamarack Fire in Alpine County for Monday-Tuesday.
Fire: The Tamarack Fire is 67,764 acres with 45% containment, an increase of about 1,000 acres from yesterday. Conditions will be similar today compared to yesterday with light winds most of day and moderate W-SW winds arriving late afternoon through evening. Fire behavior today will be dependent on gusty, erratic winds from thunderstorms. Rapid rates of fire spread are possible if the fire gets a direct hit from thunderstorm outflow winds; otherwise, fire activity is expected to be similar to yesterday.
Smoke: Smoke from the Dixie Fire remains in the area as light winds have not been able to push smoke out, and the Dixie Fire continues to generate smoke. Like yesterday, winds will be light for most of the day, so smoke will persist. Overall, expect a similar day today compared to yesterday for all areas in this Outlook, with more Dixie Fire smoke arriving tonight. There is a chance of thunderstorms in the area today and the next few days. If gusty outflow winds occur from these storms, it could help move smoke out of the area of the storms. Rainfall would also help clear the air. Stronger winds are expected tomorrow, so air quality should improve somewhat.
Health and Safety: Air quality may change rapidly. If you begin to notice health effects from smoke, you are encouraged to follow the "actions to protect yourself" listed below.
