July 28, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Tamarack Fire in Alpine County for Wednesday-Thursday.
Fire: The Tamarack Fire is 68,393 acres with 59% containment, an increase of about 300 acres from yesterday. Fire activity today is expected to be low to moderate with minimal fire spread. However, there is a chance of thunderstorms again today, and gusty outflow winds over the fire could cause an increase in fire activity.
Smoke: Stronger winds led to much improved air quality across the Outlook Area yesterday. Light to moderate smoke from the Dixie Fire drifted into the I-80 corridor between Reno and Fallon last night and will slowly move south towards Carson City and Yerington. Light winds will keep light smoke in the area today. Another round of Dixie Fire smoke will arrive tonight, spreading southward from the I-80 corridor through tomorrow morning. Smoke concentrations tonight and tomorrow will depend on Dixie Fire activity today. Smoke impacts from the Tamarack Fire will be limited to those communities near the fire.
Health and Safety: Air quality may change rapidly. If you begin to notice health effects from smoke, you are encouraged to follow the "actions to protect yourself" listed below.
