July 29, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Tamarack Fire in Alpine County for Thursday-Friday.
Fire: The Tamarack Fire is 68,571 acres with 59% containment, an increase of about 200 acres from yesterday. Fire activity today is expected to be low with minimal fire spread. However, there is a chance of thunderstorms again today, and gusty outflow winds over the fire could cause an increase in fire activity.
Smoke: Strong outflow winds from thunderstorms yesterday afternoon helped to clear smoke from the area. All smoke monitoring stations recorded periods of Good air quality. However, light to moderate smoke from the Dixie Fire will continue to impact the area, especially the Reno, Tahoe, Fernley, and Fallon areas. Smoke concentrations today and tomorrow will depend on Dixie Fire activity, as well as whether thunderstorms continue to produce strong outflow winds. Smoke impacts from the Tamarack Fire will be limited to those communities near the fire, with continued moderate smoke in the Woodfords and Markleeville areas, especially overnight through mid-morning.
Health and Safety: Air quality may change rapidly. If you begin to notice health effects from smoke, you are encouraged to follow the "actions to protect yourself" listed below.
