July 29, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire in Butte and Plumas Counties for Thursday.
Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 221,504 acres with 23% containment. Fire behavior is expected to remain lively with the hot and dry weather conditions.
Smoke: Smoke filled California's Central Valley yesterday and down-canyon flow will send smoke the same way this morning. Mountain towns near the fire may see a few clear hours but the overall forecast is little changed: unhealthy air. Communities East of the Sierra may see some relief with air in the moderate category. For Reno/Tahoe see link below.
Health and Safety:
Limit time outdoors in areas with wildfire smoke. If outdoor tasks and activities cannot be rescheduled, it is recommended that individuals reduce smoke inhalation by:
- Limiting the time spent outdoors by only performing essential activities.
- Taking frequent breaks indoors in places where the air is clean.
- Wearing properly fitting NIOSH-approved N95 respirators which provide protection from wildfire smoke.
