August 5, 2021 - Lassen and Plumas National Forests - A Red Flag Warning remains in effect today through 8:00 pm tonight. Extreme fire behavior with long range spotting, crown fire, and group torching is anticipated.
Last night firefighters, including aerial resources, aggressively attacked large flame fronts in an effort to defend structures. As fire entered the Greenville area, firefighting efforts shifted to assist law enforcement in evacuation efforts. A damage assessment team is being requested to evaluate damage in the Greenville community. Initial reports indicate firefighting activities saved approximately 25% of structures.
Focus today for firefighters and aerial resources is containing new fire perimeter growth in Williams and Pecks Valley. Structure protection resources are actively working on Keddie Ridge. Crews are continuing to patrol the east zone fire perimeter, monitoring for fire activity.
Smoke columns will be visible from active fire this afternoon. Communities of Susanville and Chester will have
very unhealthy levels of air quality.
Residents in evacuation areas should stay alert to conditions and follow the orders. There will be a virtual community meeting for the Dixie Fire at 7:00 pm online:

Dixie Fire West Zone: Extreme fire behavior through the night fueled by low relative humidity and strong winds allowed the fire to grow 50,000 acres overnight. Firefighters continued to actively engage the fire, construct direct and indirect fire line and provide structure defense.
The public is encouraged to stay tuned to the latest fire information. Be prepared by having a full tank of gas, collecting important documents and medications.
