August 13, 2021 - QUINCY, Calif. – Several National Forest campgrounds are available for Dixie Fire evacuees within a short drive from Quincy. Campgrounds are located in the areas of Meadow Valley and La Porte Road. The campgrounds are free of charge but have limited services available at this time.

Open campgrounds include Meadow Camp, Rock Creek, and Deanes Valley Campgrounds in the Meadow Valley area, in addition to Red Bridge Campground off La Porte Road.

The Meadow Valley Campgrounds are located off Forest Road 24N29, the closest campground is 2 miles from NFS Road 24N29’s intersection with Bucks Lake Road and the furthest campground is 6 miles from the road’s intersection. Red Bridge Campground is located off County Road 511 (Quincy-La Porte Road) approximately 7 miles from its intersection with Highway 70, along the Middle Fork of the Feather River. There are approximately 6-8 sites at each of the four campgrounds.

Limited services are available at these open campgrounds – there is no water, evacuees must pack out trash, and no campfires are allowed. Evacuees should bring a self-contained, portable heat source to cook meals, such as a propane camp stove or barbecue.

The Plumas National Forest is coordinating with the Plumas County Emergency Office to offer additional campgrounds and services to evacuees impacted by the Dixie Fire in the coming days.

Information on additional camping opportunities elsewhere on the Plumas National Forest can be found at Plumas National Forest - Recreation (usda.gov) or at Camping in Plumas National Forest | Outdoors in Plumas. Information on recreation sites that remain closed due to the Dixie Fire can be found on the same website Plumas National Forest - Alerts & Notices (usda.gov).

Contact the Mt. Hough Ranger District at (530) 283-0555 for more information.
