August 14, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Saturday.
Fire: The McFarland Fire grew to 42,710 and is 63% contained. The Monument Fire is now 79,073 acres - last containment was reported at 5%. On both fires, crews are focused on going direct and indirect with handline and dozers on the SE portion of the fires. By the afternoon, northwest winds could increase today which could further challenge containment lines where the fires are most active.
Smoke: For this morning, we anticipate similar smoke behavior as yesterday, but with a weakening high pressure system and a northwest wind, air quality could start to improve later this afternoon. Communities close to the fire will continue to see the most smoke, and smoke from multiple fires are impacting in this part of the state, but we should start to see improved air quality on Sunday and Monday.
