August 15, 2021 - Project: Camp is partnering with Plumas Unified School District to offer a pop up day camp to support children ages 6-16 and their families impacted by the Dixie Fire.
“Children are particularly vulnerable during disasters. That’s where we come in,” Project: Camp website.
What is Project: Camp?
Project: Camp is a non-profit organization who focus on the kids who have recently been affected by a disaster, such as the Dixie Fire. Project: Camp responds to these areas affected by a disaster to set up pop-up day camps and recently responded to the Dixie Fire. They partnered with Quincy Pioneer Elementary School officials to set up a day camp for kids that ran from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. for the past week.
“We’re on the ground and available to offer childcare services to anyone impacted by the fire,” Project: Camp’s Executive Director Michael Latner said. These pop-up day camps are volunteer-based and provide resources and training to create trauma-informed support and care for children and families.
Project: Camp responded in 2020 to the Doyle fire in California. A mother of two campers commented, “looking back on this, my kid’s won’t remember being evacuated, or our home being damaged by fire, they will remember the fun they had at a camp.”
