August 21, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Caldor Fire for Saturday.
Fire: The Caldor fire is now 82,444 acres. Surface and transport winds will be from the SW as the passage of a dry cold front influences the fire area. Winds are forecasted to be up to 25 mph at the ridgetops. Expect increased fire behavior and smoke production.
Smoke: SW winds brought smoke back into the Tahoe Basin in dramatic fashion yesterday afternoon/evening. Those SW winds are forecasted to continue today over the fire area and increases in both fire activity and smoke production are expected. The increase in smoke production will likely outweigh any scouring action the winds may have. Slight improvement can be expected mid-day; however, Unhealthy air quality can be expected for the majority of the forecast area.
Health and Safety: Take it easier during smoky times to reduce how much smoke you inhale. If it looks or smells smoky outside, avoid strenuous activities such as mowing the lawn or going for a run. Reduce Your Exposure
