August 21, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Saturday.
Fire: Heavy smoke again limited active fire yesterday, at both the McFarland and Monument Fires. On the McFarland Fire , acreage was last recorded at 115,966 and is holding at 52% containment. The Monument Fire is now 142,066 acres and remains at 16% containment. Cooler temperature and light winds from the west-northwest will flow over the fires today, though more clearing is expected especially on the west side of the fires today.
Smoke: The winds will continue out of the west northwest today, but much of the smoke will continue to be sheltered in areas near the fire, with those communities getting little relief. Areas closer to the coast will see better conditions especially in the morning as the marine influence will push clean air into these communities, though expect smoke late morning through the early afternoon once the marine layer breaks down and smoke mixes down to the surface. The winds will continue to push smoke into the northern reaches of the Sacramento River Valley today but stronger valley winds will create improved conditions later today and overnight. Conditions in most locations should be better today than yesterday.
