August 21, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Saturday.
Special Statement: The Dixie Fire Incident Meteorologists are issuing a Red Flag warning for the fire area from 1100 until 1800 today.
Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 714,219 acres, an increase of 13,589 acres since yesterday, with 36% Containment. Active fire behavior remains on both the East and West Zones.
Smoke: Southwest winds over Northern California will continue to drift smoke easterly toward Nevada through today and into tomorrow. Downwind communities, and those near the fire perimeter, will continue to see heavy smoke impacts. These areas include Chester, Susanville and Doyle. Communities sitting west of the fire, such as Paradise, Chico and Oroville, should see improving air quality this afternoon as clearer air pushes in from the coast. Continued improvement is expected for these areas tomorrow, pending any new fire starts. Quincy should also see improving air quality this evening and tomorrow.
Health and Safety:
Long-term smoke events usually have periods when the air is better. When air quality improves, even temporarily, air out your home to reduce indoor air pollution https://www.airnow.gov/sites/default/files/2021-07/reduce-your-smoke-exposure.pdf
