August 23, 2021 - The Local and State Emergency Declarations as a result of the Dixie Fire in Lassen County may allow for the possibility of local disaster assistance through the California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA).
CDAA authorizes the Director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to administer a disaster assistance program that provides financial assistance from the State for costs incurred by local governments as a result of a disaster event. Funding for the repair, restoration, or replacement of public real property damaged or destroyed by a disaster is made available when the Director concurs with a local emergency proclamation requesting state disaster assistance.
Potential disaster assistance programs include household hazardous waste removal and other private property debris removal. If this program were to be approved for Lassen County, property owners must meet certain qualifications for assistance and not disturb the ash footprint of their damaged property. It may be months before the County is notified by the State if the Dixie Fire will qualify for debris removal or other assistance programs. Please be patient while the County moves through this process. Property owners will be notified via US Mail if they are eligible.
