August 24, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Tuesday.
Fire: Southwest transport winds coupled with gradually warming and drying conditions are expected across the fires today. The Monument Fire is now 150,011 acres and containment has increased to 20%. The McFarland Fire is now at 118,090 acres and increased to 68% containment.
Smoke: Improved smoke conditions areawide yesterday, with similar conditions expected today. Mountain communities near active fires will continue to see Very Unhealthy conditions during the day, but will see some improvement overnight. As the marine layer breaks down those communities along the Trinity River below Willow Creek will see an increase in smoke into the Unhealthy range, before returning to Good conditions when the up-canyon winds pick up in the afternoon. In Mendocino county smoke levels could rise to USG levels when inversions break before improving. Redding and other communities along the Sacramento River will generally see conditions in Moderate as the valley winds will continue to clear smoke drifting into the area.
