August 26, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Thursday.
Fire: Conditions are trending hotter and dryer with west-northwest transport winds across the fires today, shifting to northerly tonight. The Monument Fire is now 153,344 acres and containment is 20%. The McFarland Fire is now at 119,560 acres and containment has increased to 73%.
Smoke: Smoke impacts are expected to increase today with the shift in the winds and likely increased fire activity leading to greater smoke production. Mountain communities near active fires will continue to see Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy conditions. Willow Creek and surrounding communities will see smoke into the Unhealthy range until up-canyon winds pick up around noon clearing the smoke. Areas south of the fire should generally see Moderate conditions today, with a potential to worsen overnight and tomorrow. Redding and other communities along the Sacramento River will see conditions deteriorate today into Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy.
