August 27, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Friday.

Fire: Hottest and driest conditions the fires have seen for a couple weeks with northerly transport winds. The Monument Fire is now 158,557 acres and containment is 20%. The McFarland Fire is now at 122,598 acres and containment has increased to 84%.

Smoke: Smoke impacts are expected to increase south of the fires today with the shift in the winds and likely increased fire activity leading to greater smoke production. Mountain communities near active fires will continue to see Hazardous to Very Unhealthy conditions. Communities in the Trinity River drainage west of the fire may be impacted by smoke transported from fires further to the north on top of smoke draining down the valley. Areas south of the fires will see conditions deteriorate today and tomorrow with periods of Unhealthy this afternoon, overnight and tomorrow morning. Redding and other communities along the Sacramento River will see conditions in the USG to Unhealthy today. Expect smoke to linger tomorrow with light variable winds forecasted.
