September 1, 2021 - Summit Lake Ranger Station and all structures in Summit Lake campgrounds remain intact in part due to successful interagency firefighting leveraging years of work to bolster the area’s wildfire resilience.

Over the past decade, crews have removed 2,000 trees (including 500 dead trees) from Summit Lake campgrounds as part of an entrance fee-funded project to improve the visitor experience, improve safety, reduce wildfire danger, and improve overall forest health.

The campground and ranger station appear to have benefited from the fuel reduction project in that the Dixie Fire burned around, instead of through, the campground and trailhead.
