September 5, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Caldor Fire for Sunday.

Special Statement: WASHOE COUNTY Health District Upgrades Stage 1 Air Quality Emergency Episode to a Stage 2.

Fire: 214,112 acres, 43% contained. Crews continue to make good progress on containment due to lighter winds. Efforts to restore infrastructure in area is in progress to allow for repopulation. Expect interior stump holes, large debris, and snags to continue smoldering in areas previously burned.

Smoke: Expect heavy smoke this morning along HWY 50 from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville. Communities to the north of Lake Tahoe can expect to see USG to Unhealthy levels of smoke throughout the day as light winds predicted today will provide short windows of relief. Grass Valley, Placer, Auburn and Folsom will see Moderate conditions this morning, clearing in the afternoon. Placerville, Apple Hill, Sly Park, Kirkwood will hang in the Hazardous zone until late morning when the influence of light winds start pushing the smoke towards Carson City. Carson City, Minden, Sparks, and Reno can expect to see the arrival of increased smoke in the early afternoon. South of the fire area will see improving conditions all day.

Health and Safety: Take it easier during smoky times to reduce how much smoke you inhale. If it looks or smells smoky outside, avoid strenuous activities such as mowing the lawn or going for a run. Reduce Your Exposure
